Traveling can be a pain, especially if you are traveling with medical supplies that you need in order to stay alive and need to have at a second’s notice. But this can also create more of a hassle then help. I know from experience that it’s a major pain in the butt no matter, how much preplanning you have done, multiple lists were made and double and tripled checked but you still forgot things that you need to have on hand no matter the issues that may arise.

I can't say enough good things about this bag, my parents purchased this bag for me as I had gone through two backpacks within a year of purchasing them. Since I was traveling back and forth from Florida at the time where I was attending college and, I really need a backpack that could hold everything, and I mean everything, it holds my MacBook air, charging chords, clothes, snacks, it is surprising roomy for the amount of stuff I can hold in it, and best thing it can fit under the seat on an airplane or in the overhead bin above your seat.

Samsonite Carbon Spinner 20 Inches

I purchased this Carry on about three years ago, as I had just gotten accepted to my college down in Florida, and I realized I didn’t have a single piece of luggage to carry my stuff back and forth when I would come back for visits. This is where I decided it was worth the money to invest in a piece from Samsonite, my family has used their products for years and it stands up to the abuse from the airlines when you have to check the bag, or it gets shoved in an overhead bin. My Spinner has been used on over 10,000 miles back and forth on multiple trips in just the three years since I purchased it, and the only thing that shows is a few scratches and a minor crack under a wheel but other than that, it’s held up beautifully

Now this is where all the lovely diabetic supplies come in to play J

Traveling with medications and snacks that need to maintain a certain temperature can be extremely tricky especially when you are not anticipating any delays at the airport but , turns out you’ve been delayed for 6+ hours and won’t get home until early mornings, I’ve had the happen to me a few times when severe storms have hit Florida and you are unsure if you are even going to get home at all, and you have vials and pens of insulin that you have to bring home for break as you don’t trust the fridge and the grounds crew at your college not to mess anything up .

The best thing I’ve learned from all of my traveling is to buy a insulated lunchbox, like the one I’m linking below as I got ice packs and put them inside of the lunchbox and then gathered all of my insulin in to a plastic bag and then put everything in the lunch bag in order to make sure it would stay cold during transport. And this was also the first bag that I hand over to TSA as I don’t want to lose it when traveling, which I will touch on a bit more later on in the blog as to how I travel with all of my supplies and other items that I need to control my diabetes. Another trick is that I purchased it in a bright color so that I could keep track of it when TSA was searching it for any issues as they always ended up opening the bag because of all the ice packs after its been screened.

Munchkin 2 Piece Ice Pack, Blue

I also purchased a few of these as well to put inside of the lunchbox with the other ice packs to make sure the insulin was staying cold, as insulin is expensive and losing it would be devasting

I personally have used this bag for everything from holding pencils and markers to my diabetic supplies both in classes, and for when I travel. When I travel I put my infusion sets and cartridges for my tandem X2 Slim and the Needles to fill the cartridge along with a few autosoft 90 sets if I decide I want to switch from my trusteel sets, I also have a few tubes of glucose tabs I prefer the root beer float flavored one from CVS- now if I can get the liquid ones, its orange from relion from Walmart . I also keep a few syringes in case I need to do a manual correction in this pouch as well as alcohol swabs, extra lancets.

Genteel Lancing device

<iframe style="width:120px;height:240px;" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=abuenning-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B013PT28XO&asins=B013PT28XO&linkId=77fa059d7965fe9cbad4b4e5ea96cdcc&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true&price_color=333333&title_color=0066c0&bg_color=ffffff">

Personally the lancing devices that come with the glucose systems are in my opinion are crappy. They hurt my fingers, and leave bruises and scars tissue from years of testing. One year ago I made the decision to purchase the genteel lancing device and its made a word of difference for me as it’s a vacuum based lancing device and I don’t hear the clicking noise of other devices. Yes it’s a little price but this is the only device I use, its traveled with me to and from Florida, to visiting my boyfriend in the Midwest. I cringe at just the thought of having to use the backup lancing device that I keep on hand if I’m out somewhere and don’t have this in my bag.

Memory foam neck pillow

What more do I have to say about this item. No matter if I’m traveling by car, train , or by airplane it comes with me, and secondly it’s worth the investment. I had bought a cheap one years ago and it sucked so it’s worth the memory foam for the win!

I always try and keep this or something similar in my backpack and purse at all times, especially for those times when I feel like my blood sugar is crashing and I need something quick to eat. And the great thing is that it fall under my Nurse practionors guidelines for treating a low blood sugar J and its cereal in a bar what more can you ask for .

This is a travel must have , I wear mine or a zip down one depending on which one I may have grabbed and not packed away. You can use it as a blanket, makeshift pillow and it keeps you warm as the plane and the terminals can be either really hot or freezing cold. You want to be able to add and remove layers as you feel comfortable and not miserable while traveling
